The beautiful West Frisian Omringdijk has protected a large part of North Holland against the advancing sea for centuries. The 126-kilometre-long dyke is therefore the symbol of the West Frisian battle against the water. The thirteenth-century castle 't Huys in Nuwendore, between the villages of Krabbendam and Eenigenburg, was once destroyed by a breach of the West Frisian Omringdijk.

Go to the routeThe route leads to 't Huys in Nuwendore, built on the Zijpe - then a sea bay - by Count Floris V to guard the dam in the Rzeker near Krabbendam. The castle was located on the West Frisian Omringdijk around 1287, was washed away in 1375 and partly rebuilt in 2011.
